Shenyang – An ordinary but special city

Shenyang, located in the central part of Liaoning Province, is a beautiful city with clear air and natural scenery. This city, bordered by the Liaodong Peninsula on south side and Changbai Mountains on north side belongs to Bohai economic circle. As the largest city in Northeast China, it is the capital as well as political, economic and cultural center of Liaoning Province. It is also an important industrial base and a famous historical city. Giving birth to the ancient Qing Dynasty, it has one of the country’s two best preserved imperial palace complexes. 

Shenyang’s unique customs and shenyang people’s cheerful and enthusiastic personality are also popular. Shenyang becomes a popular tourist destination equipped with convenience in transportation system and public facilities, making it accessible for tourists from China and abroad.

The picture above is the most famous commercial street and snack street in Shenyang. Different provinces and even cities in China have their own unique tastes and cooking methods. Shenyang food is one of the most distinctive and represents the history and culture of food in northeast China.

If local people are asked about the their favourite food in daily life, the answer must be barbecue. While barbecuing is popular around the world, shenyang barbecue stands out for its special spices. When it comes to barbecue, this word always sounds like a time that for family and friends to get together and eat out.

Shenyang are also famous for its hundreds of places of interest. The Mukden Palace, which is the most famous palace in Shenyang, was the former imperial palace of the early Qing dynasty. It was built in 1625 and the first three Qing emperors lived there from 1625 to 1644. Since the collapse of imperial rule in China, the palace has been converted to a museum that now lies in the centre of Shenyang.

During winter, Shenyang is incredibly cold because of its location. However, this is just what makes Shenyang become a famous ski resort in China. People from all parts of China come to Shenyang for skiing in the winter. Nowadays, there are lots of hot springs resorts located next to the ski resorts. People can easily relax themselves after skiing by having a couple of tea and a nice local dinner in these hot springs resorts.

Again, Shenyang is not a bustling first-tier city among Chinese cities, but it has always existed in its own way, like a star in the northeast corner of the map of China.
